Not only adults are affected by snoring. Children having sinusitis or enlarged adenoids, for example, can suffer too. Sinusitis will respond to decongestants and antibiotics. Adenoid enlargement, though, will require surgery. But the particular danger with children is sleep apnea, where breathing can stop for up to 60 seconds. Parents should pay special attention to their kids if this disorder is suspected.
Before worrying about expensive surgical procedures to eliminate your snoring, you should consider natural methods. Jaw exercises, for example, have been shown to overcome jaw tension and help in relieving snoring. You can start these exercises by putting your top and bottom teeth gently together, then opening and repeating some 20 times. When you are about half-way through doing this procedure, you will be left with a feeling of an opening in your airways and, hopefully, a reduction or elimination of your snoring.
Another suggested snoring cure is to change your sleeping position. Raising the head of your bed or adding an extra pillow will reduce the air passage restriction in your throat. At all costs avoid sleeping on your back as this tends to draw back the palate and tongue, which restricts the passage of air. Whenever possible, sleep on your side.
Snoring can be stressful, both to the snorer and those around him. It can lead to many restless nights for everyone close by and may cause anxiety and embarrassment to the snorer should his partner decide to sleep elsewhere. Persistent snoring, then, demands a permanent snoring cure.
Over-the-counter concoctions may bring some relief from snoring, or using anti-snoring devices. These remedies only bring temporary relief, however, and over-the-counter remedies can cause drowsiness or other side effects. A permanent snoring cure is needed.
Generally, any blockage in your airway restricts the air flow to your lungs. As the air enters the narrowed airway, a flapping tissue action occurs and produces a sound which is loud snoring. The aforementioned jaw exercises will strengthen the tongue so it won't fall back in your throat, which is the cause of snoring.
Best Snoring Cure
Your lifestyle may be contributing to snoring. Being overweight, excessive drinking of alcohol, too much smoking, are known culprits. Motivate yourself to losing weight as you will otherwise leave yourself open to the health hazards of heart disease and diabetes, not just snoring. Avoid over-indulging in drinking and smoking as both these will lead to airway obstruction.
